Before joining your ceremony

Have your invitation, PR card (even if expired) or Confirmation of Permanent Residence, and the identification required for your age ready. For a virtual ceremony, add your seat number and scissors. Cut your PR card only when the official instructs you.

Stay patient. IRCC officers admit participants one by one to verify identity. Keep your microphone muted until called.
Document not visible on camera
Tell the officer that the document is difficult to see and follow their instructions. Do not send identity documents to an address you have not verified.

Treat your virtual ceremony like a formal court appearance. IRCC officers must clearly see and hear you while confirming your identity.
- Join at the arrival time shown in your invitation.
- Stay seated throughout the virtual ceremony, including the oath and anthem.
- Wear appropriate business, traditional, religious or ceremonial clothing.
- Do not share the video link or take photos or recordings during registration or the ceremony. Follow the instructions for any designated photo opportunity.
If family members are also candidates, follow their individual invitations and the officer’s instructions. Do not forward your video link.
📞 If You Lose Connection
Try reconnecting with the same invitation link and passcode. If that fails, IRCC may contact you, or you can email the address in your invitation about rescheduling. Do not assume the oath is complete.
