Canadian citizenship ceremony: what to expect
Prepare for a virtual or in-person citizenship ceremony using your IRCC invitation and the official instructions.

Check your invitation first
IRCC may invite you to a virtual or in-person ceremony. Your invitation gives the time, location or video link. If you need a different format, follow IRCC’s rescheduling process.
Prepare your documents
Bring your invitation, PR card or Confirmation of Permanent Residence, and the identification required for your age and circumstances. Adults need two pieces of ID; one must show a photo and signature. Check IRCC’s complete list for the rules when using a PR card as ID.
For a virtual ceremony
Test your camera, sound and internet connection. Have your virtual seat number and scissors available, and follow the official’s instructions about your PR card. Keep the video link private. Remain seated and keep your head and shoulders visible.
During and after the ceremony
Expect registration, the oath, speeches and the anthem. Follow the instructions for signing and returning the oath form and obtaining your certificate. Virtual participants must sign on the day they take the oath. Your invitation specifies the arrival time and expected duration.
