Canadian citizenship processing times: how to check your wait
Use IRCC’s current estimate and your application status correctly. Understand why a general processing time is not a test or ceremony appointment.

Check the current official estimate
Open IRCC’s processing-time tool and select the citizenship application category that matches your case. Note when you checked it. An estimate can change; a number copied into an old article should not guide travel or other commitments.
Distinguish an estimate from your status
The processing-time tool and your individual application tracker answer different questions. Use your tracker and messages for requests or decisions on your file. A published average does not reveal which stage your file has reached.
Avoid invented stage-by-stage deadlines
Do not assume a fixed interval from acknowledgement to test or from test to ceremony. Requirements, additional checks and the circumstances of the file can affect the sequence and timing.
Prepare useful records
Keep copies of submissions, receipts and messages. Follow IRCC’s instructions if you need to update contact information or respond to a request. Use the official contact route for case-specific questions.
Use waiting time for study
Read Discover Canada, complete small practice sessions, and revisit missed topics. Keep your invitation instructions separate from any practice timetable. A study schedule cannot accelerate processing.
