The citizenship knowledge test is based on Discover Canada throughout Canada. Your location does not provide a different official study guide. Learn national history, rights, government and geography, including the places covered in the guide.
Geography to review
Canada has ten provinces and three territories. The Atlantic provinces are Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Quebec and Ontario form Central Canada; Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta are the Prairie provinces. British Columbia is on the West Coast. Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut form the North.
Follow your invitation
Use the dates and test format in your IRCC invitation. Do not travel to an assumed test centre based on a preparation website. Check the official online-test requirements if you are invited to take the test online. Both English and French are available.
Time, score and attempts
You have 45 minutes for 20 questions and need 15 correct answers. IRCC allows up to three attempts within the 30-day test period. After three unsuccessful attempts, IRCC invites you to a hearing. The immediate online result remains unofficial until reviewed.
Do not plan around unofficial wait times
We do not have verified city-by-city test or ceremony wait times. Check IRCC’s processing information and your application tracker, and keep your contact details current. Passing the test does not guarantee a ceremony on a particular date.
